So you’re an entrepreneur. You successfully launched your own business, and now you’re working it day by day. Congratulations! It takes a big leap of faith to go it alone and follow your dreams. Being an entrepreneur also means you probably have new ideas for business development or even additional ventures every other day (or hour?). That’s the entrepreneurial spirit we know and love. So, how do you make the most of these characteristics? We’ve got the tips you need to harness that spirit to grow your business and flourish.
• Stay focused on your passion. Being an entrepreneur is tough. You have to put in a lot of work, make mistakes and do much of it alone. This uphill battle won’t work if you don’t have passion for what you do. An entrepreneur loves their business – it’s what keeps you motivated, focused and moving forward. If you started your business because you loved the concept or idea, be sure you don’t stray too far from what sparked its creation.
• Take baby steps and make a plan. As entrepreneurs, it’s in our DNA to want to do more, more, more. But a word of caution: Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Take the smaller steps necessary to achieve your one, three, and five-year plan, and map to that every day. Once that goal is achieved, reformulate your plan and keep moving forward.
• Learn from others and surround yourself with your “A” team. A mentor, peer group or trusted circle of advisors will be critical in getting from point A to point B. Your mistakes will be significantly reduced, and you’ll have a panel to pitch ideas to and run things by. A group of seasoned professionals will be ideal to check in at different stages of your business—whether it’s within the growth stage in the first 5-10 years or in its maturity.
Whether you’re an initial entrepreneur or serial entrepreneur, you need the right team in place. It’s important to check in with people who are like-minded and can provide perspective and insights that perhaps your team cannot. The Alternative Board-Denver West can connect you with the right people to make the business of being an entrepreneur easier to manage. Get started now.
