Hi there!
Thanks for taking some time to explore TAB Denver West and learn what we’re all about.
Why I Do What I Do
I get up every morning to change people’s lives: to help Denver business owners collaborate and thrive – to grow their businesses, build their communities, and cultivate an unparalleled quality of life for themselves and their families. And I am truly passionate about that.
I want everyone I work with to have an exceptional, joyful, abundant life. Business owners shouldn’t have to work themselves to the bone to achieve their dreams. At the end of the day, nobody looks back on their life and says, “gee, I wish I’d worked another hour.” I certainly won’t.
Learning, improving my intellectual self, is what I work on every day. It’s what allows me to be the best version of myself in both my personal and professional life. I’ve spent my career learning the ins and outs of companies of all sizes, and in the ever-changing environment of modern business, there’s always more to learn.
But there’s one thing I know for sure: small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) hold the key to local and regional success. They are the economic engine to the State, Country and ultimately the World. To be able to help these businesses thrive and allow their owners to live the rich rewarding life they deserve is truly the most rewarding thing I have ever done.
My Approach to Leadership
I believe that good leadership isn’t just about the bottom line. It’s about cultivating relationships within your ecosystem: with your team, with your customers, with your community and most importantly with yourself.
Here are some of the guiding principles I live and lead by:
Health and fitness come first – if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.
Look for the good and you’ll find it; this is a world of abundance.
Life is one long opportunity to learn and grow.
Emotional intelligence isn’t optional. To lead well, we have to have empathy.
Your character is your currency.
If everybody spent more time doing what they do best, the world would be a better place.
My Business Leadership Street Cred
Starting out in little companies like IBM, General Motors, and EDS, I learned a lot about how not to do things! From there I moved into the start-up world, where I had a great time wearing a wide range of leadership hats. I helped take my first start-up public, back in the days when you had to be profitable to even consider an IPO. I left that company shortly after IPO, having realized that a couple of key players on the management team didn’t know how to run a publicly-traded company…
I then joined another technology company that had recently IPO’d, and I stuck around there for 10 years in executive positions. While there, I managed teams and brought products to market both domestically and internationally. By the time I left, we had grown to a $500M company – bigger than I felt was really my niche.
After stints in a few more start ups, I started my own business in 2000 – focused on small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) – and in 2005 I began my journey with The Alternative Board. This is where I could finally put my passion into practice. Working with SMBs and facilitating CEO Advisory boards while providing 1-1 coaching for business owners allows me to make a difference in the lives of individuals and to give back to my community – to my ecosystem – in a way that is more impactful than I could have hoped for.
If you’d like to experience this yourself, I’d love to have a conversation.
