You may have heard that the first week in May is National Small Business Week. I recently learned that the top brass at the Small Business Administration is celebrating in our very own Mile High City.To me, it’s pretty exciting to throw the spotlight on Denver. There are great companies here, large and small. I’m privileged to work with many of them and will never stop singing their praises – particularly of the small business owners like yourselves.
You’ve probably heard me say this before, but small businesses are the economic engine of this country and the largest employer in the country. When a small business hires someone they are supporting their livelihood and the economy, which is a big deal!
For all the good small businesses do, owning one can be challenging. You have rent, payroll and taxes to worry about. Obamacare might be stressing your business and your budget, forcing you to consider keeping your employees at part time hours or their numbers under 50.
With all those difficulties, my sincere hope is that you will use the occasion of Small Business Week to celebrate your success. Buy a few bottles of wine and share a toast with your employees on a Friday afternoon, take a few outstanding employees to lunch at a local restaurant or arrange an offsite meeting to talk about your vision for your company and hear from employees about their vision for the future. And don’t forget a pizza party – purchased from your local pizzeria, of course – can go a long way!
Celebrate how far you’ve come, where you are and where you are going. You deserve it.
P.S. SBA is also hosting a series of events and webinars for Small Business Week. Take a look: https://www.sba.gov/nsbw/events/denver
Cheers to you!
