If you own a small business, chances are Obamacare has affected you – and there will be more impact in 2016. I’d like to invite you to join us for a panel discussion and conversation around this important issue. When you leave, you’ll understand what you need to do, what is available to you and what changes are coming.
To preview this upcoming event, I asked Dutch Ross, Area Assistant Vice President for Health & Welfare Consulting, and moderator of our panel to share some thoughts…
1) What will participants learn about the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, at the event?
Everyone will learn something new or get new information that will dispel a misbelief. We have experts from all the fields people need to hear from. We’ll be offering concrete recommendations for people. Bottom line: We’re going to focus on getting people actionable information that they can take to the bank.
2) What are some of the challenges for business owners that you were going to discuss?
Since healthcare reform passed in 2010, there’s been a lot of information, confusion and regulation. This meeting will be a discussion of where things stand now. There have been a lot of changes. We’ll have a compliance consultant who specializes in regulation there to help ensure people comply and to help combat the misinformation. Our other panel features a sales leader from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado.
3) Will mandatory health care go away?
It may change, but it’s unlikely to go away, so people need a plan that they understand and have confidence in to deal with it.
4) Why is the topic of particular interest to you?
You know, no one in kindergarten says they want to be an insurance consultant. The reason I do this work is because it’s incredibly meaningful and impacts people’s lives. It’s rewarding to build relationships with my clients and help them get through a tough situation.
5) Are small businesses handling healthcare the same way?
No. Small businesses have a lot of options: You offer a fully insured health care plan through one of the big carriers, you self fund a plan through those carriers, you don’t offer a plan and incur a penalty or you send your employees to the state exchange. There’s a conversation to be had and I think it will be interesting to see what people choose. Come prepared to learn about where healthcare is going in Colorado and bring your questions.
