At TAB Denver West, we often start the new year by helping our Members revise their plans – starting with their Personal Visions.
Perhaps you’ve heard the question “What is your Why?” many times. It’s certainly a question that those in business leadership have been asking themselves for a while now. But have you ever answered the key follow up question: “So What?”
Many business owners have business objectives. It’s part of running a successful business. But have you taken the time to really explore the why behind those objectives?
I often ask TAB Denver West Members the “So What?” question several times when we’re mapping out their Personal Vision. It’s a question that helps to really get to what their ultimate objectives are – to drill down to what they want out of life. In other words, if they achieved all of their business objectives, how would that help them in life (not just in business)?
If they were able to become the go-to company in their industry, to attain a certain growth goal, or even to be able to successfully operate their company without their continual personal involvement… what would they do with their time and money?
I encourage them to answer these questions:
- What would you like to be doing, with whom and where?
- Where would you like to go, specifically?
- Is there anything you would like to acquire or to let go of?
- Whom do you want to become?
- How would you like to live your life?
By exploring the “So What?” behind the Why, we establish a true Personal Vision of success. We can then move on to architecting an ideal role in their business: the role that will enable them to live out this Personal Vision. If the role they currently play in their business is getting in the way of achieving their vision, we need to work on that! Because, after all, that is why we own our own businesses: to be able to live the life we want and deserve!
If you would like to explore this, let us know! We’d love to help.
