We’ve “talked” about the importance of strategic planning on the blog before. Today, I want to dispel the belief that strategic planning is intimidating or scary.
The truth is, you don’t have to create a massive strategic plan document and if you have the right attitude it is truly not worth your dread – I promise! In fact, rather than a burden, I’d encourage you to think of it as a wonderful opportunity.
An opportunity to sit down and envision your future.
That’s the most important piece of it – what is your vision for your business? What does success look like? What has to happen for you to feel like you’ve made it? What will be the things that give you security and make you feel like you’ve established a quality business that will stand the test of time?
It’s just like a road trip: once you figure out where you want to go, you have to figure out how to get there.
What turns, what roads, do you need to take to get to your destination?
These days, even a three-year strategic plan is too much because of how fast the world moves. So a strategic plan could be as simple as where do we want to be by the end of the year and what you need to do each month to get there.
For more on the how of strategic planning, see my recent post Jalapeno Peppers and Bite-Sized Strategic Planning.
The most important thing is that you’re taking action to move your business forward. That’s ultimately what success in strategic planning looks like.
I know you can do it. Call me if I can help.
