You have likely heard the term “Always Be Selling.” Well the same holds true when it comes to recruiting. In order to have a robust, efficient team in place at all times, it is imperative that you and your team are consistently actively recruiting. You know how difficult it is to find quality talent; the question is, what are you doing to help yourself acquire the people you need so it doesn’t turn into a perpetual issue? Do you post on the various job boards? Do you prefer engaging recruiters? While recruiters can be expensive, they can certainly facilitate the hiring process.
The discipline of always hiring substantially increases your potential talent pool. Sure there are drawbacks, like perhaps bringing someone on before you would ideally like to. But in today’s tight labor market, if you find a great candidate with sharp skills and who fits your values, company culture etc., you may need to hire sooner than you like or risk them not being available when you are finally “ready to hire.”
Integrating the “always be hiring” mentality into your culture also increases the potential for referrals from current employees, which tend to be the best kind of job candidates.
We all want to offer our clients superb experiences that will have them coming back for more and recommending your business to others. Have you yourself ever received a great customer experience? If so, have you ever thought to get to know the individual who provided you with such a positive experience? It is possible they could be a great fit for your organization and help take you to the next level; you already know how they positively relate to customers, which is a great benchmark. Think about the people with whom you interact on a regular basis and if any of them could potentially be a great fit in your organization. Keep an eye out for those positive players and those exceptional experiences. They may prove to be hiring gold.
